William C. Soady, one of Hollywood’s most seasoned movie distribution executives, has resigned as president of MCA’s Universal Pictures Distribution.
MCA said it has promoted Fred Mound to a newly created position as executive vice president of the subsidiary. Mound, 56, served most recently as senior vice president and general sales manager in the division.
Soady, 45, joined MCA in 1970 in its Canadian movie distribution company and moved to Los Angeles in 1981 as Universal Pictures’ general sales manager. In 1983, he was appointed president of the distribution company by former MCA Motion Picture Group Chairman Frank Price.
Soady declined to discuss the reasons for his departure, but noted that his contract expires at year-end and said that he expects to announce his plans shortly.
