The Los Angeles Athletic Club, which sponsors the John R. Wooden award, given to the nation’s outstanding college basketball player, has added a new wrinkle to the honor.
Beginning this season, a John R. Wooden All-American team will be assembled from the top-five players selected in the balloting for the Wooden award. The players will receive special trophies, All-American jackets and scholarship awards to their respective universities. To qualify the players must have a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average.
The L.A. Athletic Club also announced that Executive Life, a Los Angeles insurance company, has signed a three-year agreement to sponsor the Wooden award, beginning this season.
