About 30,000 James Dean fans are expected in his hometown of Fairmount, Ind., this weekend to mark the 33rd anniversary of his death. Scheduled are a film festival, a look-alike contest and . . . a lasso competition. The 13th annual festival also will include pilgrimages to Dean’s grave in Park Cemetery, said festival coordinator Ann Warr, who runs the Fairmount Historical Museum, a storehouse of James Dean-iana. “The lasso contest is designed after the same trick Dean performed in ‘Giant,’ ” Warr said. Last year, more than 20,000 fans descended on the town of 3,287 people during the festival weekend.
