A fire believed to have started in the laundry room of the luxurious Bel Age Hotel on Sunday afternoon forced some guests to leave their rooms, but no injuries were reported, authorities said.
Los Angeles County firefighters were called at 1:46 p.m. after smoke was seen coming out of outside air ducts that led from the basement laundry area of the West Hollywood hotel, fire officials said. The blaze was extinguished in about 30 minutes.
The cause of the fire and extent of the damage were not immediately known.
“There is apparently a lot of water damage from the sprinklers,” firefighter Hubert Parker said.
A hotel official said guests on the lower floors of the nine-story, 198-unit hotel were asked to come down to the lobby as a precaution.
