Local News in Brief : Workman Touches Wires, Dies After Fall

A construction worker was killed Monday when a jolt of electricity knocked him from a roof to the ground 30 feet below. He apparently had touched live electric wires atop the building on South Rio Street, east of downtown Los Angeles.
The 53-year-old victim suffered massive head injuries, but a spokesman at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center said it was uncertain if the fall or the shock caused the death.
The worker, who was not identified pending notification of relatives, had been working on a renovation project to make the four-story building earthquake-safe, said Police Detective Robert Suter.
