Local News in Brief : Charges Against Producer Dropped

Pandering charges against a Hollywood film producer have been dropped by the San Diego County district attorney’s office because of a recent state Supreme Court ruling banning such prosecutions.

Prosecutors dropped 10 pandering counts against Ronald Jeremy Hyatt, 34, a producer for Video Exclusions of Hollywood.

“We have to yield to the state Supreme Court,” Deputy Dist. Atty. Bonnie Dumanis said, referring to the court ruling in the Los Angeles County case against film producer Harold Freeman that struck down a law defining the hiring of actors and actresses to perform sex acts as pandering, even in a film judged non-obscene by court standards.

Hyatt also appeared as an actor in a movie whose sex scenes were filmed at a San Diego home.

“Those of us who are concerned may attempt to enact some type of legislation to cover this . . . but as of now, they aren’t breaking any laws,” Dumanis said.
