Kings Are Beaten by Red Wings

OAKLAND — Paul MacClean scored 3 goals and Steve Yzerman added another to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 5-4 victory over the Kings in an NHL exhibition game here Sunday night.
Yzerman, whose goal in the third period proved to be the game-winning shot, also had 2 assists.
Tim Tookey scored twice for the Kings, bringing the team within 1 goal of the Red Wings, but Detroit goalie Glen Hanlon prevented the Kings from scoring again by fending off numerous attacks in the final period.
Wayne Gretzky set up two of the Kings’ 4 goals.
The Red Wings finished the exhibition season with a 2-7-1 record, while Kings were 2-5-2.
