Gunmen shot and killed a Roman Catholic man as he visited friends in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and a guerrilla splinter group later claimed responsibility, saying the victim was an informer for British security forces. The Irish People’s Liberation Organization issued a statement saying it carried out the killing of Henry McNamee, 33. Police said McNamee had no connection with security forces. The IPLO is a splinter group of the Irish National Liberation Army, which in turn is a breakaway faction of the outlawed Irish Republican Army. All are seeking to drive the British from Northern Ireland.
