Kroger Co. is laying off about 300 employees at its Cincinnati headquarters as part of a restructuring designed to fend off two takeover offers. Most of those being laid off have been notified and will have their last days on the job today, a company spokesman said. The layoffs “basically cover everything from vice president to the secretary level,” the spokesman said. About 500 employees will remain at the supermarket operator’s headquarters.
