DePhillips Runs Fullerton Past Western

Fullback Steve DePhillips rushed for 141 yards and 3 touchdowns and Fullerton High School recovered 5 fumbles in a 36-7 nonleague victory over Western Thursday night in Fullerton District Stadium.
DePhillips had his fifth consecutive game in which he rushed for more than 100 yards, and brought his season touchdown total to 11. He scored on runs of 12 and 1 yards and caught a 39-yard touchdown pass. DePhillips, a senior, has 670 yards rushing this season.
Fullerton (2-3) gained 239 yards rushing by utilizing a triple-option attack that confused Western throughout the game. Quarterback Rene Arias added 136 yards passing as Fullerton enjoyed its best offensive game of the season.
“Scoring wise, this was our best game of the season, but I thought we played better against Anaheim,” Fullerton Coach Steve Nishimoto said. “After three tough losses, I was happy to see us come back and play well.
