Manop Phinovwong kicked a 22-yard field goal with 10:42 left to give Santa Ana Valley High School a 3-0 victory over Saddleback Friday night in front of 900 at Santa Ana Stadium.
The field goal came six plays after defensive back James Stewart of Santa Ana Valley (1-3-1) recovered a fumble on the Saddleback 20-yard line. Phinovwong had missed a 38-yard attempt on the first play of the second quarter in Santa Ana Valley’s only other scoring threat.
Saddleback (1-4) had its best opportunity in the first quarter, driving to the Santa Ana Valley 19 before a high snap kept Beto Zavala from attempting a 38-yard field goal.
