Bolshoi Ballet principal dancer Andris Liepa will dance with Bolshoi defector Valentina Koslova at UC Irvine on Oct. 22. They will dance the Black Swan pas de deux from “Swan Lake” and the pas de deux from Balanchine’s “Apollo.”
Liepa will be appearing with the UCI Dance Ensemble Thursday through Oct 22, dancing Fokine’s “Le Spectre de la rose” (it will be his first performance of the work in this country) and Medkov’s “Sunlight” (not “Billy the Kid,” as was originally announced).
Koslova, who defected with her husband Leonid Koslov from the Bolshoi when the company was in Los Angeles in 1979, is now a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet. Her duets with Liepa will be her only appearance in Orange County.
Liepa will also appear with American Ballet Theatre during the 1988-89 season and is expected to be part of ABT’s Nov. 29-Dec. 11 run at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa and at the Shrine Auditorium from March 7-19.
