Alaska Air Group reported third-quarter profit of $23.3 million, a 66% increase over last year’s quarter. Revenue for the parent company of Alaska Airlines was up 12% to $241 million. The Seattle-based carrier said the figures continue a trend that began earlier this year because of higher fares and lower fuel prices. AMR Corp.’s net income jumped a record 72.5% from last year to $150.3 million. Revenue rose 18% to $2.33 billion. The Texas-based parent company of American Airlines attributed the results to strong growth in both traffic and yield, coupled with effective cost controls and lower fuel prices.
