THE PREPS : Lynch Leads Santa Ana Valley to 24-12 Victory

Jesse Lynch ran for 172 yards in 29 carries and scored a touchdown to lead Santa Ana Valley High School to a 24-12 Century League victory over Canyon Thursday at El Modena High School.
Lynch rushed for 90 yards in 17 carries in the first half as the Falcons (3-3-1, 2-0) took a 21-0 lead. Santa Ana Valley gained 325 yards rushing in 59 attempts. Jesse Brooks gained 106 yards in 25 carries and also scored a touchdown.
Santa Ana Valley took a 7-0 lead with 7 minutes gone in the first quarter on a 14-yard touchdown pass from Augustine Osegura to Cornell Brown. The score capped an 82-yard, 15-play drive in which Brooks gained 29 yards in 5 carries and Lynch gained for 20 yards in 7 carries.
The Falcons extended the lead to 14-0 with 40 seconds gone in the second period on Brooks’ 2-yard run, which capped a 65-yard, 11-play drive. Brooks ran for 35 yards in 5 carries during the drive.
Lynch capped a 59-yard, 11-play drive with 6-yard run with 3 minutes left in the half to give the Falcons a 21-0 lead.
Manop Phinovwong extended Santa Ana Valley’s lead to 24-0 with 1 minute left in the third quarter by kicking a 46-yard field goal.
Canyon scored in the fourth quarter on a 52-yard pass from reserve quarterback Chuck Nickerson to Mike Greene and a 6-yard pass from Nickerson to Bret Wallingford.
