Toys From Convict Arrive in County
A truckload of Christmas toys for needy Orange County children arrived in Anaheim Friday, courtesy of an inmate serving life for murder in a New Jersey prison. The toys were collected in a nationwide drive called Ayuda, Spanish for help . The story of the drive, organized by convict Rick Rowe, pictured above with a young friend at a 1984 prison press conference, appeared in The Times Orange County Edition. The $100,000 in toys will go to Orangewood Children’s Home, the Salvation Army, an Anaheim program and the county Indian Center.
