Micropolis Corp. reported a $12.7-million loss in the third quarter, contrasted with a profit of $7 million a year earlier. The loss came even though sales rose 26% to $95 million. The Chatsworth maker of disk-drive data storage devices for computers, which previously said it would post a substantial loss, blamed unexpectedly high manufacturing costs for a new product and price cutting among competitors that make a drive similar to one of its older products.
