CAMPAIGN ’88 : Bush Leads Dukakis in 2 National Surveys

The Bush/Quayle ticket held leads of 10 to 13 percentage points in two national trial heats reported Tuesday.
The Gallup Poll found the GOP presidential candidates ahead of the Dukakis/Bentsen Democratic ticket by a 50%-to-40% margin. Gallup also detected a strong surge--currently almost 5 to 1--in voter perceptions that Vice President George Bush is likely to beat Massachusetts Gov. Michael S. Dukakis in the November election.
A CBS-New York Times poll of 1,287 registered voters, taken Friday though Monday, showed Bush with a 13-point lead over Dukakis, 54% to 41%.
The Gallup findings, from a poll of 1,232 registered voters taken over the weekend, are little changed from surveys conducted during the last six weeks.
