Next year’s Oscars telecast is shaping up. With Allan Carr on board as producer, Marvin Hamlisch has now signed on to be the show’s musical director, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Wednesday. Next year’s show will mark the first time that Hamlisch will have done the Oscar show musical duties, and Carr said the songsmith would be composing some original music for the show, still scheduled for March 29.
