Coast Savings & Loan Assn.’s third-quarter profit fell 25% from last year to $11.7 million. The Los Angeles thrift cited lower net interest income. The firm also said it realized a $8.5-million gain on the sale of its data processing unit and noted that its one-year negative gap ratio--a measure of interest rate exposure--was reduced to 1.2% on Sept. 30, compared to 5.5% a year ago.
