UCLA Remains Undefeated, USC Loses in 4-Team Women’s Volleyball Tournament

Top-ranked UCLA defeated Colorado State, 15-4, 15-13, 15-9, Friday night in the Pacific 10 Conference Challenge women’s volleyball tournament at Pauley Pavilion as the undefeated Bruins (20-0) equaled their best start since the 1983 season.
Leading UCLA, the country’s only undefeated team, were outside hitters Samantha Shaver, with 14 kills, 9 digs and 1 block, and Jenny Evans, who had 11 kills and 8 blocks.
In the second match, No. 8 Brigham Young University defeated No. 14 USC, 15-8, 15-13, 15-7. BYU’s Dylann Duncan led the Cougars with 15 kills and USC’s Megan McCallister had 12 kills.
The tournament teams UCLA and USC of the Pac-10 against BYU and Colorado State of the High Country Athletic Conference. The tournament will conclude tonight when USC plays Colorado State at 6 and UCLA plays BYU at 8 p.m.
