Japan Housing Starts Decline 7% in September

TOKYO — Japan’s housing starts fell 7% in September from a year earlier to 144,566 and declined a seasonally adjusted 7.3% from the previous month, the Construction Ministry said.
In August, housing starts gained 2.2% from a year earlier.
New construction of private homes dropped 11.8% to 42,476. Rental housing starts slipped 11.8% to 72,693.
Construction of condominiums increased 18.1% to 26,411; that of company housing for employees rose 16% to 2,986.
