The Canadian Track and Field Assn. continues to act as Ben Johnson’s banker although the sprinter breached two association contracts by testing positive for anabolic steroids in the Olympic Games at Seoul.
Johnson was disqualified for life from the Sport Canada athlete assistance program, which gave him $650 a month. He also was suspended by the International Amateur Athletic Federation for 2 years.
The International Olympic Committee stripped Johnson, 26, of the 100-meter gold medal when tests showed traces of the steroid stanozolol.
Johnson, however, is still able to withdraw his money from the CTFA’s amateur athlete reserve fund, which shelters money from being taxed.
