Isobel Yealy Fisher; Author, Educator, Activist

Isobel Yealy Fisher, 82, author, educator and social activist in the Pasadena area. Among her books was “Beginning Lessons in English for the Foreign Born,” a text still in use in adult schools. In the 1940s Mrs. Fisher was sent by Columbia University (where she received a master’s degree) to the Soviet Embassy in Washington where she taught English to Russian diplomats. During the early years of the Cold War she was a sought-after speaker because of that experience. In 1967 she was honored by the Pasadena Council of Women’s Clubs for the time she had devoted to a variety of philanthropies. In Pasadena on Wednesday.
