Director John Carpenter, on the frankly Yuppie-bashing theme of his latest film “They Live”: “Basically, the premise is that the Reagan Revolution is controlled by aliens, who were designed to look like Republicans. What the aliens are is free enterprisers from beyond space, and (distributor Universal’s parent company) MCA began with a lot of reluctance . . . (because) they thought the film was about them.”
