Phil Nevin set an Orange County record with a 57-yard field goal, but it was the only points El Dorado could manage in a 19-3 Empire League loss to Esperanza Thursday night at Valencia High School.
Nevin, a senior, broke the record of 56 yards set by Pat Blottiaux of Servite in 1987. His kick cut the Esperanza lead to 6-3 in the second quarter.
Esperanza (5-4-1 overall, 1-3-1 in league play) got touchdown runs by Lance Brown and Dan Mondragon. Brown scored on a 13-yard run in the first quarter. Mondragon scored on a 20-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Kevin Leon kicked field goals of 37 and 47 yards for the Aztecs.
El Dorado finished 5-5 and 3-2.
