South Gate 12, Simi Valley 7--Jaime Cervantes rushed for a game-high 101 yards and caught a 13-yard touchdown pass as the unbeaten Rams, using primarily their second string and players promoted from the B team, defeated the Pioneers at Simi Valley.
Cervantes’ touchdown catch from backup quarterback Elmer Figueroa gave South Gate a 12-0 lead with 11:53 to play. Aldo Gonzalez kicked field goals of 29 and 20 yards for the 3-A City Section team.
Simi Valley quarterback Eric Hale scored on a 60-yard run with a minute left to avoid a shutout, but Simi Valley finished the season 0-10.
