A tax preparer has been charged with failing to pay $77,000 in taxes that he owes the state stemming in part from the $1.7-million sale of a restaurant in 1981, prosecutors said Tuesday.
The district attorney’s office said Sergio Velez, 49, of Agoura failed to report the profit from the sale of the El Presidente restaurant in Mission Hills and also failed to file tax returns for 1984, 1985 and 1986.
Prosecutors are trying to contact Velez, co-owner of Mission Hills Tax Consultants in San Fernando, to ask him to surrender for arraignment in Municipal Court on Nov. 22.
The charges were filed Monday.
