Five teen-agers were arrested in the defacement of a San Diego synagogue after police were deluged with tips, officials said. The three girls and two boys, who were not identified, are all 16, police said. Three of them have the garb and appearance of so-called “skinheads,” neo-Nazi teen-agers and young adults who wear their hair in crew cuts and openly advocate racism and violence against Jews, blacks, Latinos, Asians and homosexuals, investigators said. Swastikas and anti-Semitic statements were found spray-painted on Tiffereth Israel Synagogue’s stained-glass windows, walls, signs and landscaping. The teen-agers were booked for investigation of felony vandalism and released to the custody of their parents.
