Local News in Brief : La Habra : Armed Man Robs Bank; Police Jail Suspect

A man with a handgun robbed a savings bank branch here Wednesday afternoon, and an hour later officers had arrested a Los Angeles County man in connection with the case.
Johnny Diaz, 25, of the San Gabriel Valley community of Bassett was being held in La Habra City Jail on suspicion of armed robbery and also of parole violation, which permits his detention without bail, said La Habra Police Sgt. Phil Stufflebean.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies arrested Diaz at his home about 4 p.m., an hour after the holdup at the West Whittier Boulevard office of Far West Savings Bank. About $1,750 was taken, Stufflebean said.
A witness took down the license plate number of the suspected getaway car, which was traced to Diaz, Stufflebean said.
Diaz was hurt in an altercation with sheriff’s deputies as they tried to arrest him, and he was treated for minor injuries at a West Covina hospital before being released o the custody of La Habra police, Stufflebean said.
