The Los Angeles Department of Airports has written Inglewood a check for $1 million to reduce the impact of aircraft noise in areas next to Los Angeles International Airport.
Since 1984, the city has been awarded $9.6 million from the Federal Aviation Administration and $5 million in matching funds from the department to buy residential property affected aircraft noise. The property is then converted to commercial or industrial uses more compatible with the airport.
A large share of the money that Inglewood has received has been spent to redevelop property along La Cienega and Century boulevards.
El Segundo and Lennox are also eligible to receive the funds, which can be used to soundproof homes.
