Loyola Marymount, playing without its top 3 scorers, defeated the Czechoslovakian national team, 129-126, in an exhibition basketball game Saturday night at Loyola.
The Czechs took a 126-124 lead with 24 seconds to play, but senior guard Enoch Simmons hit a jumper to tie the game. Loyola’s press forced a 5-second turnover, and Simmons won the game with a 3-point shot with 4 seconds left. The Czechs have lost all 8 games on their U.S. tour.
The Lions were without Hank Gathers, Bo Kimble and Jeff Fryer, all nursing minor injuries. Simmons scored 35 points, and Per Stumer added 28 for the Lions.
