ABC Entertainment’s “War and Remembrance” may be sour-faced over the lower-than-projected Nielsens, but there is joy at ABC News, whose “World News Tonight” won last week’s ratings race over CBS, albeit by a tiny margin. ABC’s newscast averaged an 11.3 rating, 1/10th of a ratings point higher than Dan Rather’s “CBS Evening News.” The “NBC Nightly News” was third with a 10.5 rating. Each ratings point means 904,000 homes. ABC’s victory marked the third time since the week ending Sept. 21 that it has been first in what is becoming an increasingly tight battle between it and perennial winner CBS for the nightly news Nielsen championship.
