Washington Slows Scott in Second Half of 18-14 Quarterfinal Win Over Monroe

All season, Monroe High has survived on the running of Curtis Scott. But when Washington shut down the state’s fourth-leading rusher in the second half of Wednesday’s City Section 3-A Division playoff game at Monroe, the Vikings bid farewell to the season.
Washington (8-4) wore down Monroe (9-2) in the second half to grind out an 18-14 victory.
Scott, who gained 130 yards in 26 carries, had only 22 yards in 8 carries in the second half.
Takim Brown led Washington with 111 yards in 20 carries and scored the game’s winning points on a 2-point conversion after Orlando Hadnot’s 35-yard touchdown run with 11:52 left tied the score, 14-14.
Washington took an 18-14 lead when Monroe punter Semaj Johnson downed the ball in the end zone after a bad snap.
