NEW YORK — CBS announced today it has cut five shows from its schedule--including those starring Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore--in an effort to boost its third-place Nielsen ratings.
The shows lost in the CBS reshuffle of its lineup include “Annie McGuire,” starring Moore, which will have its last broadcast Dec. 28, and “Simon & Simon” and “Raising Miranda,” which will have their final broadcasts Dec. 31. “The Van Dyke Show” had its final broadcast on Dec. 7. “Dirty Dancing” will go off the air after Jan. 14, officially “on hiatus” and possibly returning to CBS at a later date. Four Smothers Brothers specials are to be inserted into the lineup.
