Pageant Announces ’89 Works

An emphasis on fully three-dimensional works will characterize the 1989 Pageant of the Masters program, which will run July 7 to Aug. 27 in Laguna Beach.

Decorative objects to be re-created with live models include: “Orpheus,” an etched-glass piece by Steuben Glass; a group of Hopi Kachinas; “Fantasy of Wings,” Robert Krantz’s bronze of a nude girl feeding sea gulls; sterling and enamel Tiffany miniatures of circus figures; “Art, Science and History,” a bronze by Julia Bracken Wendt; a group of Chinese ceramics and an Egyptian necklace.

Two-dimensional works chosen for pageant interpretation include: Maxfield Parrish’s “Garden of Allah”; Claude Monet’s “Boat at Giverny”; a Currier and Ives print, “Winter Pastime”; an Etruscan fresco of dancing figures; Donna Schuster’s “On the Veranda” and “Pier Shot,” an image of a surfer by Ken Auster of Laguna Beach, who designed the poster for the Orange County Centennial. As always, the final re-creation will be of Da Vinci’s “Last Supper.”

Seating at the Irvine Bowl will be revamped, with individual seats replacing the old fiberglass benches, according to a festival spokeswoman, and loge seating will be doubled. For ticket information, call (714) 494-1145.
