McDonnell Douglas sold five MD-11s and signed up options for two additional MD-11s from Beverly Hill-based International Lease Finance, an order worth $700 million. The order brings the Douglas Aircraft backlog of orders and options on MD-11s to 208 from 24 customers, worth an estimated $20.8 billion. “It is an extensive backlog, there is no question about that,” a spokeswoman said. Steven F. Udvar-Hazy, president of International Lease, termed the purchase “an important addition to our jet portfolio for the 1990s.” Deliveries will begin in the spring of 1992 and run through 1994.
