The FDA has also given marketing approval to Costa Mesa-based Medstone International to start commercial sales of a mobile version of its lithotripsy machine that uses shock waves to destroy kidney stones.
Freeman Rose, Medstone’s chairman and chief executive officer, said there is an expanding market for the new product that he expects will generate up to 30% of the company’s annual sales.
“This product will be sold to mobile operators servicing metropolitan and rural hospitals and clinics that otherwise could not afford their own lithotripsy systems, but are able to participate on a shared services basis,” Rose said.
