TOKYO — Japan’s ailing Emperor Hirohito, the world’s longest-serving monarch, entered the 63rd year of his reign Sunday in stable condition, palace officials said.
They said the 87-year-old emperor, critically ill since Sept. 19, lost a small amount of blood for the second successive day.
Crown Prince Akihito, his wife and other members of the imperial family attended a ceremony at the palace to commemorate the anniversary of the death of Emperor Taisho, Hirohito’s father, on Dec. 25, 1926.
