The Colleges : Irvine Scores 5 in Ninth to Edge Riverside, 11-10

UC Irvine rallied for five runs in the ninth inning to beat UC Riverside, 11-10, in a nonconference baseball game Saturday at Irvine.
Ed Luna’s line drive to center scored Mike Goodcase from third base for the winning run.
Jon Skaggs led off the ninth with a two-run homer. Stacy Parker walked and one out later, pinch-hitter Jim Koehler doubled home Parker. After a passed ball and the second out of the inning, Goodcase singled to score Koehler. Goodcase took third after a wild pickoff throw by pitcher Matt Davis. Osmar Dechavez walked, setting up Luna’s single.
Irvine trailed, 7-0, at the end of four innings and, 9-5, after five.
Irvine’s Brian Young had two home runs, including a three-run shot in the fifth. Steve May (1-0) picked up the victory for Irvine. Matt Davis (0-1) took the loss.
The Anteaters are 2-3-1; Riverside falls to 2-5. Irvine plays host to Chapman Tuesday at 2:20 p.m.
