Two bandits held up a guard returning to his armored car as he walked out of a Los Angeles coffee shop Wednesday and escaped with more than $200,000 in cash, officials said.
The Brinks Armored Transport guard was returning to the armored car with a cup of coffee in his hand about 10:30 a.m. near 6th and Bonnie Brae streets when he was accosted, Sgt. Larry Ariaz said.
The men brandished a small-caliber handgun, fired one shot at the back of the armored car and then took the guard’s gun and a key to the back of the vehicle, Ariaz said.
After pulling out money bags containing more than $200,000, they fled through an alley on foot, firing once more in the direction of the guard, he said. Nobody was injured in the shooting.
