A former defensive end and a current football starter at the University of Utah have been charged with two counts of assault each.
Todd Eldredge, a starting offensive lineman from Los Angeles, and Filipo Mokofisi, a defensive end for the Utes from 1982 to 1985, were named in the complaint.
Prosecutors said the charges stem from an incident in which the alleged victim suffered broken ribs and was beaten and kicked repeatedly about the head.
