Iran and China agreed to establish closer ties, with China pledging to help Iran recover from its eight-year war with Iraq, Iran’s state-run media said. Deputy Premier Tian Jiyun of China, who arrived Friday, held talks in Tehran with President Ali Khamenei and Prime Minister Hussein Moussavi, the official IRNA news agency reported. China was one of Iran’s major arms suppliers during the Persian Gulf War, and since a truce last August, the two countries have signed agreements for several construction projects in Iran and on sharing communications technology.
