MAYORAL RACE

Councilman Nate Holden has donated $5,000 to a campaign committee endorsing Proposition 2, a $176-million bond measure for improving police facilities and expanding the 911 communications system.

CITY COUNCIL RACES

Al Dib, an Arleta resident, businessman and 7th District candidate, has received the endorsement of the California Republican Assembly.

Irene Tovar, a Latino activist running against Councilman Ernani Bernardi in the 7th District, is the only non-incumbent to be backed by the Latino Justice / Public Safety Political Endorsing Convention.

CITY CONTROLLER

Candidate Ray Bishop has challenged City Controller Rick Tuttle and candidate George Hollis to a debate.

SCHOOL BOARD RACE

Alan Gershman, 2nd District incumbent, has received the endorsement of the Latino Justice / Public Safety Political Endorsing Convention, which represents six Latino political action committees.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE RACE

Mary Louise Longoria, an education policy analyst and candidate for Office No. 2, has received the endorsements of state Sens. Art Torres (D-Los Angeles), Robert G. Beverly (R-Manhattan Beach), William Campbell (R-Hacienda Heights) and Alan Robbins (D-Tarzana); Congressman Mervyn M. Dymally (D-Compton); Assemblyman Richard Katz (D-Sylmar); council members Ernani Bernardi and Gloria Molina, and Board of Education President Roberta Weintraub.

Rose Ochi, an attorney and candidate for Office No. 2, has received the endorsements of the Mexican American Bar Assn., U.S. Reps. Esteban E. Torres (D-La Puente) and Matthew G. Martinez (D-Monterey Park); Assemblymen Richard Polanco (D-Los Angeles) and Charles M.Calderon (D-Whittier); council members Joan Milke Flores and Richard Alatorre, and Carmen Perez, vice chairwoman of the national Democratic Party.
