Council OKs Limits on Van Nuys Apartments

The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday approved a temporary ordinance restricting apartment construction in Van Nuys and northern Sherman Oaks.
The measure, which was unanimously approved, puts tight controls on apartment construction while city planners revise the area’s community plan this year.
Under the ordinance, which was sent to Mayor Tom Bradley for approval, no building permits will be issued for multifamily complexes that are not in keeping with the existing community plan. In addition, apartments and condominiums cannot be more than 30 feet in height.
The Van Nuys Homeowners Assn. supported the measure, which was introduced by Councilman Joel Wachs.
