Protesters Stop Trucks From Entering Landfill
- Share via
Neighbors of Lopez Canyon Landfill blocked garbage trucks from entering the dump Monday for the third time this year.
About 30 protesters, who live in Lake View Terrace, Pacoima and Kagel Canyon, said they believe that the landfill, operated by the city of Los Angeles, is hazardous to their health. The city’s Bureau of Sanitation denies that the dump is dangerous.
The protest was aimed at a meeting of the California Waste Management Board to be held Friday in Los Angeles. Board members are scheduled to review the dump’s operating permit, which is out of date.
The protest ended after about an hour when police threatened to arrest demonstrators if they did not disperse.
