BISMARCK, N.D. — A Northwest Airlines jet en route from Seattle to Detroit made an emergency landing Friday after one of its two engines developed an oil leak, authorities said.
Flight 578, a Boeing 757, developed problems with the engine about 100 miles from Bismarck, Northwest spokesman John Whitt said. The plane carried 182 passengers and a crew of seven.
“This was the closest airport they could use. They made a nice approach and landed safely,” said Charles Cole, a Federal Aviation Administration manager. “The pilot did a real nice job.”
