A rerun of NBC’s “Cheers” squeaked to a narrow victory over ABC’s “Roseanne” rerun as the highest-rated television show in the Nielsen ratings for the week ended July 30, according to figures released today.
“Cheers,” with a rating of 17.5, came in only one-tenth of a point ahead of “Roseanne.” Last week they tied for first place at 17.4.
NBC easily won the week for its 58th straight victory in the A. C. Nielsen Co. survey. The only surprise in the Top 10 was the appearance of NBC’s new summer comedy about nurses, “13 East.” It was in 10th place. Other than CBS’ “60 Minutes” and “Murder, She Wrote,” all the shows in the Top 10 were comedies.
