I feel hopeful after reading the article, “San Ysidro Discovers Cure for Ills of Gangs, Drugs” (July 19), but not so much because this community has found a way to combat drugs and gangs. I always have felt communities could overcome these problems with support from the authorities and government.
What I really feel happy about is that the Los Angeles Times has given a positive perception of a minority community. I get awfully tired of reputable newspapers only chronicling the crime, deaths and dropout rates of minorities and not the triumphs and victories against such social ills.
I hope the Los Angeles Times in the name of equality will run more articles like the one above.
