Irish Republican Army soldiers will attack Britons “wherever they are” to force London’s removal of British troops from Northern Ireland, a senior IRA leader told Stern magazine in an interview published in Bonn. But the official, identified only as “the IRA person in charge of foreign operations,” told the magazine the extremist group will halt all attacks outside Northern Ireland if the “British government declares it will withdraw its troops from Northern Ireland in the near future.” The IRA has claimed responsibility for a series of attacks on British military installations and personnel in West Germany, where nearly 70,000British troops are stationed.
