Tulare County officials warn that Traver residents are “at risk” until the little community’s drinking water is purified to eliminate the effect of human or animal waste. A warning was issued for the 650 residents to drink bottled water or boil the tap supply for 10 minutes because fecal matter was found in the system. “As far as we know, nothing has been done,” said Jay Johnson, a county water-quality expert. “We have been unable to contact water company officials. If nothing is being done to clean up the water, the whole community is at risk.” Traver is served by a nonprofit water company owned by property owners. President Brink Sellers and other directors could not be reached for comment. Traver is the second Tulare County community to experience water problems in recent days. People in Farmersville complained last week that their tap water smelled and was oily, but no bacteria were found.
